Remembering the Impact of Coach Hamilton

Hamilton’s tenure has been nothing short of transformational. When he arrived at FSU in 2002, doubts loomed over whether the team could compete with the big names in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). However, through hard work, innovative strategies, and a focus on player development, he built a basketball program that is now recognized nationally. His emphasis on a deep roster rather than just depending on a few star players has been key to FSU’s recent successes.

Fans Select the All-Time Starting Five

In a fan poll to honor their beloved coach, Terance Mann emerged as the top choice for the all-time starting five, winning a whopping 54.2% of the votes. Mann played a crucial role in leading FSU to the Elite Eight in 2018 and the Sweet 16 in 2019, scoring over 1,300 points during his time with the team. Following him closely was Toney Douglas, who earned 46.4% of the votes. Douglas’s leadership helped FSU make its first appearance in the ACC Championship game in 2009.

The Rest of the All-Time Roster

Rounding out the all-time starting five, Al Thornton garnered 42.9% of the votes. Thornton was a finalist for various awards, including the Wooden and Naismith Awards, showcasing his talent and skill during his college career. He was a fan favorite who left a significant mark on the program. Trent Forrest, celebrated for being FSU’s winningest player with 104 victories, claimed 41.7% of the votes, and Scottie Barnes, known for being a top NBA draft pick, received 33.9% of the votes to complete the list. Michael Snaer also made a name for himself, recognized as a reliable sixth man with a remarkable NCAA record for buzzer-beaters.

Honorable Mentions

While the starting five list is exciting, it’s important to recognize several other outstanding players from Hamilton’s era. Devin Vassell, Jonathan Isaac, Malik Beasley, and Tim Pickett received honorable mentions from the fans, highlighting the depth of talent Hamilton fostered during his time at FSU.

Fans and Alumni Celebrate Hamilton’s Legacy

As Coach Hamilton prepares for his last game, fans and alumni reflect on his enormous contributions to the program. Moments of triumph and challenge characterize his 23-year tenure, inspiring not only players but also fans across the nation. The upcoming game promises to be emotional, not only as a farewell but also a celebration of the character and community Hamilton helped build at the university.

A Bright Future Ahead

While Coach Hamilton’s departure marks the end of an era, Florida State basketball fans are hopeful for the future. As they reminisce about memorable games and pivotal moments, the legacy built under Hamilton’s guidance will continue to inspire future generations of players. His commitment to excellence on and off the court has set a high standard, one that the next chapter of FSU basketball will strive to continue.
